Nicholas Woollen is the Vice President of Engineering and Facilities Operations for Marriott International, where he oversees asset protection and capital preservation for approximately 650 managed Marriott hotels across all brands and the strategy for engineering & facilities discipline throughout U.S. and Canada.

Nicholas began his Marriott career in 1998 as an Engineering Supervisor at the Nashville Airport Marriott, where he used skills learned during his six-year tenure with the U.S. Navy as a Petty Officer and Second-Class Engineman. He later moved into the Director of Facilities role at the Aspen Wye River Marriott Conference Center.

In 2009, Nicholas joined the Atlanta Marriott Marquis as a Chief Engineer, where he saved the property $300K annually through a tinted window solution and reduced water consumption by 1M gallons. During his tenure at the property, he was awarded the Manager of the Year award and AHLA ‘Best Use of Technology’ award and was also nominated twice for the Marriott Awards of Excellence.

Nicholas then moved into Director of Engineering roles at the Renaissance Waverly Atlanta and Renaissance Nashville. While at the Renaissance Nashville, Nicholas oversaw the removal and demolition of an attached convention center and the rebuild of new meeting and mixed-use space. During this time, he was also elected to the Nashville Mayor’s Advisory Council for District Energy Utility Services.

In 2018, Nicholas accepted an Area Director of Engineering and Facilities role, where he oversaw 174 hotels in the Southeast, streamlining Fire-Life Safety audit inspections and reducing property controllable spending.

During the pandemic, he became a subject-matter expert on ultraviolet irradiation applications for use in Marriott hotels worldwide.

As Vice President of Engineering & Facilities Operations, Nicholas oversees asset and building infrastructure to determine cost-effective measures and deliver best-in-class maintenance for over one-million critical assets. Most recently, Nicholas developed an expert room preventive-maintenance process, improving productivity by 60,000 man-hours. Throughout his career, Nicholas has saved the company millions of dollars through energy and water reduction.

Nicholas attended Texas Tech & DePaul University and holds professional certifications, including a Hotel Real Estate Investments & Asset Management certificate from Cornell University. Nicholas resides in Clarksville, TN, with his wife, Jennifer, and kids, Gracelyn and Nolan.
